Hello world what's up guys, welcome back to today's article. We're going to talk about my favourite skincare ingredient retinol. It comes in a million different forms and if you didn't check out yesterday's article I helped you guys decide between if retinol cream is right for you. So make sure to check out that article before you continue with today's post. Because today we're talking all about retinol cream and its side effects.
If you are on the budget and don't have access to a doctor to get at retinol in prescription or someone who just has really sensitive skin and wants to start slow. This cream is packed with emollients that just means moisturizers. So you are getting those Retin-A. Those Retin-A benefits however it is not regulated. So any product can claim anything on the box. So you do have to be a little bit careful when you're using a retinol cream.
Today I'm gonna take you guys shopping with me in a drugstore to buy the best products. We're gonna check out all the different brands and see which is the best retinol cream UK brand and what other products they offer.
You guys know the benefits of this cream in your skincare routine are literally life-changing anti-ageing, age-reversing and anti-wrinkles. Even though many people will ask about does it really reduce wrinkles? Further to this, it can help you reduce brown spots, reduce that dark pigmentation as well as increase collagen production making your skin thicker, firmer and tonner. This vitamin A derivatives are literally game-changing skincare ingredients. If you're excited about the entire products, make sure to give this article a big thumbs up and hit subscribe.
This week is going to guide you to transform your skin. All right guys let's head inside of the drugstore and check what products we can find. Okay, you guys I found our first product, this is Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair® with accelerated retinol. This is supposed to be their fast-acting formula. You know what that's pretty crazy. It will improve the appearance of under-eye wrinkles, smooth fine lines and brighten skin tone.
This is a blend of retinol as glucose complex and hyaluronic acid. So you are gonna get those moisturizing benefits in there as opposed to like a traditional threat knowing cream in an oil. I've never seen any product mixed with oil before. Now I do like to put oils on as the last layer in my skincare routine. This is really interesting. This is the same benefit as a moisturizer.
This is the face wash Retinol-X Anti-Aging Gel Cleanser in the rapid wrinkle repair and as you can see this as gently exfoliates and cleanses to prepare skin for retinol. Now I don't believe that this contains the ingredients itself but it's just is going to prepare your skin. So alright let's see what else is here. I'm really just looking for things that look like they're for a more mature audience. Those are the products that have retinol as their main ingredients and comes in facial cream in them.
This one is from LilyAna Naturals and this is the original tree moisturizer. If you've never heard about them, I must let you know that they do have one of the best skincare products on Amazon. All the amazing reviews will speak for themselves. I have reviewed their vitamin C before and I'll put that up in my another article for you to read as well.
I started using this product after I turned 30. But it's okay if you want to start a little earlier as well. Anything with retinol in it is amazing to cut back a few years on the skin and works really well on all skin types. This one here claims to give you noticeable results without causing any redness or dryness. It does have the highest concentration of plant-based and active ingredients and can help you give you much healthier and youthful skin.
I have been using this for about six to eight months now and I have seen a major change with my skin. Of course, this with some other products gives me some of my best results for my skin. It takes about three months to show any difference while using it regularly. I like to use this cream twice a week or when I first started introducing it to my skin I just used to use it once just like a mask. I have seen a difference with my skin.
It has reduced my acne, changed my texture and my skin looks healthier overall. While using retinol it is important to also use a good moisturizer and a good sunscreen. I would not suggest using an exfoliant whether physical or chemical while you are using your cream. I have really enjoyed using this cream and I will definitely buy it again. When I first started using it, I would only use it as a face mask and then rinse it off after I've cleansed and toned my skin.
But now that my skin has gotten used to the retinol, I use it as a night cream but you have to remember to wash your face thoroughly the next morning. This cream does contain 2.5% retinol. I have this in a 1.7 OZ pump bottle. It's a plastic bottle and it's priced at around £20. It's not tested on animals. I will also put the ingredient list here for you to read. I got mine from Amazon. It doesn't have any kind of smell and you can apply it with your fingers all over your face neck and decolletage.
You have to follow up with the moisturizer the next morning. So if I feel like my skin is really dry then I will just use this as a mask for one hour and then wash it off. But if my skin is normal or a combination like now how it's in the summer, I will use it as a night cream and remember to use any kind of products that you're using on your face 20 to 30 minutes before you head to bed. So that it has time to absorb into the skin and doesn't wipe away on your pillowcase.
So Whats the Side Effects?
There are three products I want all of my patients to use. The sunscreen, antioxidant and retinol. But you might have also heard some rumblings about side effects of it that some people can't use it or that it just is so irritating that it's not tolerable by a lot of people. So I wanted to talk about some of the side effects but also discuss ways that you can actually avoid them.
You aren't one of those people that comes into my blog and says I can't be on retinol. You got so many questions about retinol products with no answer. So the first thing I want to talk about is how you should start using it. I'm gonna advise you to put this on every single night. Because what's gonna happen is your skins gonna get red flaky. You're essentially gonna be giving yourself a peel at home and you wanted to peal when you're ready to do peel.
The way you want to start using it, maybe two or three nights a week after you wash your face. If you're not getting irritated then you want to move up to maybe four nights a week. If you are getting irritated maybe go down to two nights stay there for a while about a month and then start going up one more night and slowly build that up. I know that with retinol myself it took me seven months to be able to use it every night.
The second tip is there are different strengths of retinol you don't want to be using a Retin-A those are stronger. You definitely want to be in the retinol family and maybe start at 0.25. That's gonna be the most gentle percentage to start with. I personally started with a point 5 just a few nights a week and slowly worked my way up that's okay too. But 1.0 % is gonna be stronger. I don't recommend my patients start with 1.0 % that's usually for the people that have been using it the point 5 % every single night are not having any issues.
That's when we'll move them up to 1.0 %. The other thing you should know about that, it does make your skin more sun-sensitive. So if you're one of those people that's not going to wear a hat outside, are not going to wear sunscreen, you should not be on it. Because the chances of you getting sunburned while on retinol are a lot higher and sunburns can lead to skin issues as we age.
So if you are going to be using this cream that's kind of you're going to be committed to your skin when you are in direct sunlight or intense sunlight, for example on vacation you are going to be wearing a hat or a sun shield in addition to your sunscreen. Every day in the morning sunscreen has to be a part of your regimen. So if you follow those few tips start with weaker strength. Start only a few nights a week and also take really good care to avoid the sun or wear sunscreen every day. This the cream should not be a problem and you can easily integrate it into your daily skincare regimen.
